Roll 1d4+1 armed men lounge by the roadside. They are the Constable's men, if you ask.

A small retinue tailing a young nobleman approach. A retainer shouts for you to clear the path.

A band of Roll 2d6+3 Rodan warriors march down the trail, a small wain loaded with a chest  in their midst.

A party of Roll 3d6+3 landsknechte have camped nearby and are having a raucous celebration. A blazing fire gives a great luster to the pile of golden treasures at the center of it all. They invite you to join them for meat and wine.

A wagon is stopped by the side of the path, a man sits before it. When you near, he asks if you have an interest in being more dangerous.

You hear the distinct sound of soldiers being ordered about. You spy a small unit of Roll 2d6+4 Latian legionnaires establishing a camp.

Through the trees, you see the campsite of a nomad band. A woman goes to draw water, heading right towards you. She is unaware of your presence.

A group of Roll 1d3+2 adventurers loiter about their campsite. They bear obvious wounds and have a grim countenance.

You encounter a wounded man in light armor. His name is Dren and he says he has been transported here by the gods, to spare his life. He failed in his task to prevent a tyrant from returning from Hell. He just needs directions to town.

A jester dances jerkily down the path. He waves a shabby rod and recites a little poem. He tells you that terrible storms are coming.

A filthy man, covered in tattoos and scars, roasts something over a fire. When he sees you, he demands directions to the nearest place with something to drink. He is an 8th level fighter. Worse than that, he is French.

A troupe of actors come down the way, singing and playing their instruments. They beg you to watch them perform for you now, while a child cutpurse sneaks up behind you.

A mage crashes out of the undergrowth. He grabs the nearest person by the shoulders and begs for help. He has been beset upon every night by a horrible, howling creature.

Roll 3d4 hobgoblins (AC 14, 2HD, 1d8 battleaxe or 1d6 crossbow, 75 XP) are sawing down trees to block the path ahead of you. They are unaware of your presence.

You hear a lady's voice scream, "Oh no!" as a log trap comes swinging across the path at you.

A courier asks if you know which way to the nearest town.

A voice shouts, "Now!" and, now, you have a brigand leader (AC 15,  2HD, longsword 1d8 dmg, light crossbow 1d6 dmg, 120 XP) and Roll 3d3-2 brigands (AC 13, 1 HD, 1d6 short sword, 60 XP) encircling you.

Roll 3d3 skeletons (AC 13, 1HD, spear 1d6 dmg, 45 XP) shamble out of the trees.

7 of the Constable's men ride after you on horseback. They accuse you of stealing from local farmsteads.
